One of the few things that people complain about the iPhone and iOS platform about is the lack of customization. This can come in various shapes and forms, one of which being widgets. The developer prerelease of Widge, a framework designed by Peter Hajas, has managed to open up the avenue to develop and design widgets for the iOS devices. This undoubtedly has a bright future and strong potential for the platform as a whole. Widge could possibly bring a new outlook and feel to the iOS software and could potentially redesign how users use their iDevices. Despite there being such possibilities, there are also some valid concerns about the effect of widgets on iOS devices. Some of these concerns include: Battery Life Functionality Storage (Amount of space the widgets will take) RAM usage The designer hasn’t been able to tap into the enormous opportunity that Widge has to offer despite these issues being present. While the current issues are all ones that can be fixed, the important factor to consider is what the widgets will look like, how they will end up running within the iOS platform, and whether or not they will display and flow elegantly with the current iOS design. A recent concept that was designed by Dilip James seems to support the vision that Widge claims to be striving for. You can see a high resolution full image of Dilip James’ concept design by clicking here. Joshua Tucker from MMI was also able to interview Dilip James and inquire about the origin of his designs and outlook on Widge. You can read the interview by clicking “Read More” below.
