Mark Papermaster, the recently departed Apple Senior VP landed a new job, signing on with Cisco as Vice President of the Silicon Switching Technology Group. His resume includes time working on a chip design for IBM as well as his brief tenure where he ran the hardware engineering group at Apple. The Cisco job certainly won’t have the same profile as the Apple position did but it certainly is still an important position. Papermaster will be leading the development of chips for Cisco switching equipment. Cisco hardware runs a lot of the infrastructure that make up the internet as well as many corporate networks.
Papermaster’s previous relationship had been marred by controversy before he even started to work there. IBM sued Apple in an attempt to prevent Papermaster from joining the company. After working for Apple for only a year and a half, Papermaster decided to leave in the wake of reception problems with the iPhone 4 which arose shortly after release. Let’s see what Mark moves on to do at Cisco.
