With the release of the first proof of concept of custom firmware, the esteemed iPhone and PlayStation 3 hacker, George “GeoHot” Hotz releases a full-blown jailbreak for the PlayStation 3 on firmware 3.55. What’s more is that it comes in the form of a PUP patch file. Those of you already on firmware 3.55 can run it to enjoy homebrew goodness, with one small caveat: GeoHot notes that any PKGs written for 3.41 will not run on 3.55. Nothing to worry about though, new signing tools are currently on the way according to GeoHot. These new tools will restore compatibility. Until those are released, those still on 3.41 may want to hold off on updated to firmware 3.55.

We also recommend that you install the path file on a vanilla, non-modified 3.55 firmware. You can read his official message below:
