Steve Ballmer didn’t announce much about the upcoming Windows Phone 7 updates at the Consumer Electronic Show this year except for demoing the cut-copy-paste. However, according to the folks over at Neowin, a key Windows Phone 7 employee has revealed some information to them on where the platform was heading. One of the features that was discussed was the news of Microsoft working on a FaceTime competitor for Windows Phone 7.

The mentioned application will probably be one that will integrate with Microsoft’s Live services so that it could be used on all Windows Phones. When someone asked why Microsoft couldn’t just used something like Skype, the employee answered by saying that the FaceTime competitor would “reach beyond the hand of Skype.” Neowin, claims that front-facing cameras may be a requirement for Windows Phone 8 devices in the future, though at this point, it isn’t yet clear on whether the application will be a part of Windows Phone 8 or be a part of an update for Windows Phone 7.
