Many people have been anticipating an iPhone 4 unlock which was promised to us back in February. Earlier today iPhoneWiki’s @veeence tweeted the following in response to a users question about using an unlocked iPhone when traveling abroad this Sunday: @veeence what is your guess veeence? I will go back to Milan on Sun…would I be able to finally use my iPhone 4?? @skinski74 I have no idea. Sorry. (though, sunday = funday when things gotta be release ) This led many to believe that Sunday would be the day that the new version of UltraSn0w would be released to unlock iOS 4.3 on baseband 04.10.01 as well as baseband 02.10.04 and 03.10.01 but the speculation was all put to a stop with MuscleNerd’s tweet later in the day. The popular iPhone hacker confirmed that the iPhone Dev Team does not have a working exploit in hand for the iPhone 4 on baseband 02.10.04 and 03.10.01. He tweeted the following: Sorry, there’s no news on the i4 unlock for those who lost 01.59 (or never had it). It’s taking longer than we wanted The 06.15.00 downgrade has been pushed off by the i4 BB work…gotta prioritize else it’s constant juggling When one of the users asked MuscleNerd about an eta for the unlock, MuscleNerd responded with no specified time. The tweets read as follows: @Cleansman how much longer would it take? Weeks or months?…seriously thinking about selling my iphone4 @MuscleNerd there’s no way for us to know. We were making great headway with one version til we realized it was SIM dependent (!) It was clarified that the exploit the iPhone Dev Team had in their hand was SIM-dependent. This means that it works on one of the T-Mobile SIMs, but doesn’t work on another. The team did develop a method where you could “fix” the SIM to work with it, but it was far too complicated for many to be released to the public. We didn’t think that unlocking the baseband 02.10.04 and 03.10.01 would take this long and neither did many of you probably. Patience is a virtue though and we will keep you updated as soon as more information is released.
