Dr. Sudoku Prescribes: Outside SudokuThomas Snyder (aka Dr. Sudoku) is a two-time World Sudoku Champion and five-time U.S. Puzzle Champion, as well as the author of several books of puzzles. His puzzles are handcrafted, with artistic themes, serving as a kind of “cure for the common Sudoku.” Each week he posts a new puzzle on his blog, The Art of Puzzles. In this week’s prescription, Outside Sudoku, all the numbers in the puzzle have left the grid and you’ll need to find a way to put them back in.

I was planning to write a regular Sudoku this week, but with the warmer spring weather all the numbers decided to go outside to enjoy the sun. Solve the puzzle by finding a way to put them back into the grid (they haven’t traveled too far).

Rules: Enter a digit from 1 to 9 into each cell so that no digit repeats in any row, column or bold 3×3 region. The digits outside the grid must appear in one of the first three cells encountered from that edge of the grid (for example, a digit above the grid must be in one of the first three rows of the puzzle, in the same column as that clue number appears).
