Last week Amazon.com, Inc. announced the Amazon Appstore for Android and now they just released – the Amazon Cloud Player and Cloud Drive, a cloud-based music streaming solution for the web, and more interestingly, mobile devices like Android. Each user is given 5GB of space in their personal Cloud Drive (unless the user purchases an MP3 album on AmazonMP3, which will automatically and freely boost their space to 20GB for one year) to handle their music. Interesting features include the ability to re-download anything that is uploaded to the Cloud Drive, and the ability stream all of the music stored online to any Android device that has the Amazon MP3 app installed. The Cloud Drive – 5GB of free cloud storage on Amazon’s servers (upgradable to 20GB with the purchase of one album or for $20/year; $1 per gigabyte after that) – and the Cloud Player, which can be accessed from the web or from an Android device. The player is now part of Amazon MP3, so there’s finally a reason to keep it installed. Some readers have confirmed that the Cloud Player will support music purchased from iTunes as well, presumably from the post-DRM era. There are two ways to add music to your Cloud Drive – either by uploading it directly from your computer or (of course) purchasing from the Amazon MP3 Store, the latter of which doesn’t count towards the quota. Once uploaded, you can access your music anywhere and at any time. You can also download any of your music whenever you like, which could be very useful for anyone with multiple computers. Adding Music to Cloud Drive Amazon’s easy uploading process makes it simple for customers to save their music library to their Cloud Drive. Files can be stored in AAC or MP3 formats and will be uploaded to Cloud Drive in the original bit rate. Customers can hand-pick particular songs, artists, albums or playlists to upload or simply upload their entire music library. Cloud Player for Web Customers who have a computer with a Web browser can listen to their music. Cloud Player for Web currently supports Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari for Mac, and Chrome.
