The popular hacker of the Chronic Dev-Team and the master mind behind the Greenpois0n jailbreak tool, p0sixninja just recently posted on Twitter that the untethered jailbreak for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch running on iOS 4.2.1 is coming soon using the new version of the Greenpois0n tool. According to him, the new version of the greenpois0n tool will be supported for all iDevices. Back in November he mentioned releasing a tethered and/or semi-tethered version of the tool and then later apologized informing the public about working on a permanent untethered solution.
His tweet from November:
The apology and the mention of working on an untethered solution:
@p0sixninja has now mentioned that the newer and updated version of the greenpois0n tool is being worked on right now with a few patches and is said to be released shortly after the “sandbox patches” are applied:
The news is coming straight from the hacker himself and we can all expect a permanent untethered solution to be right around the corner. @comex was also rumored to be releasing JailbreakMe 3.0 first on Christmas, delayed to the supposed December 30th release, which was apparently not true either. His JailbreakMe 3.0 is rumoredto be released tomorrow (January 3rd, 2011) but there is no confirmation as of yet. For those of you who are running A4-based iOS devices such as the iPhone 4, iPad, and iPod Touch 4G, you can use the latest version of Redsn0w 0.9.7 beta to have an untethered jailbreak solution. You can follow our step-by-step guide that can be found here to do so.
As far as any jailbreak method goes, we would recommend that you play it safe and save your SHSH blobs to ensure that you won’t be getting stuck on stock firmware (in case something goes wrong) as well as to make sure you can downgrade if you wish to do so. You can follow our step-by-step guides that will help you save your SHSH blobs found below:
- [How To] Save SHSH Blobs Directly From iPhone, iPad, iPod touch Using iSHSHit
- TinyUmbrella Updated To 4.21.01; Offers Support For iOS 4.2.1
As far as those using the older non A4-based iOS devices such as the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, and iPod Touch 2G, if you wish to upgrade to iOS 4.2.1 and have an untethered solution, you are going to be stuck waiting for either @comex’s JailbreakMe 3.0 or @p0sixninja’s Greenpois0n tool. Just as a reminder to all though, if you rely on an unlock for your iPhone, you should notupdate to iOS 4.2.1 just yet until further confirmation from the developers.
As usual, stay tuned for more the latest news and info regarding jailbreaking and unlocking your iOS devices by following us on Twitter and/or subscribing to our RSS feed.
