of salty Late Night-style sketches, like Honors in his bathrobe, crossing his legs casually while a sign saying “Little XO” stops the viewer from seeing his privates. A clip about masturbation shows Honors vigorously jacking a rubber chicken doll, with gooey white paint splashing on a crewmate’s shoes. F-bombs are deployed with vigor.

And then there’s the material that’s causing the Navy to launch an investigation, as it told the Virginian-Pilot, which found the videos. Making fun of the ship’s Surface Warfare Officers, Honors refers to one as a “fag SWO-boy” and shows a sketch featuring what he calls his “favorite topic: two chicks in the shower.” (I know, I know: an old-school sailor talking dirty; shocking stuff.) “There’s a really good chance you’re going to be offended tonight,” Honors tells the camera, acknowledging that he’s received complaints about the videos.

The inappropriate content may land Honors in trouble. But what’s most striking about the videos is how much time Honors put into them. These aren’t filmed with a single camera: there are multiple, semi-professional cuts and sweeps, with relatively high-quality voiceovers and post-production work. It’s Avatar or Inception, compared to the flicks that ordinarily come out of a military public affairs office. In the “fag SWO-boy” segment, Honors appears in three roles simultaneously, demonstrating the editing skill of his crew.

Maybe Honors saw the vids as a way to break down the barriers between senior officers the sailors they command. But one thing is for sure: he wants to be a star. He appears in most every sketch, whether it’s him laughing over his F-bomb-strewn blooper reel, pretending to be Top Masturbator or tormenting himself-as-an-SWO. The “chicks in the shower” sketch ends with the women sailors inviting Honors into the shower with him. If “XO Movie Night” ends up harming Honors’ Navy career, he can take comfort in the fact that he’s about to become a YouTube sensation. There’s already a support group on Facebook.
