The most vocal member of

the iPhone Dev Team, MuscleNerd seems to be confirming that GeoHot already has a working untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak solution but one that may not work for all iOS devices. This was discovered in a recent reply to a tweet sent out by a user named iPodguy79. We recently posted about a recent discovery of yet another domain dubbed “rubyra1n” by Geohot and this may be the name of his new jailbreak utility.

iPodguy 79 tweeted the following message to @sherif_hashim @MuscleNerd @iphone_dev @chpwn:

keep up with your soap opera and geo will be slapping another reality check on you

To which MuscleNerd replied:

I hear geohot does have an untether actually! Though not for all devices.

This could mean that GeoHot in fact could release his untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak solution at some point in the future although it is uncertain what his plans are at the moment. Currently the iPhone Dev Team is still ironing out bugs that are lurking the final release of RedSn0w 0.9.7 which support the untethered jailbreak (Jailbreak Monte). @Comex’s upcoming untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 (JailbreakMe 3.0) was mentioned to probably be a Cydia package over your existing RedSn0w tethered jailbreak but speculation has it that it will be released depending on Apple’s release of iOS 4.3. While we aren’t sure about the status of that window we do know that the untethered jailbreak software will be released very soon.
