For a while now we’ve known about a fancy new music player contained in Android 3.0 -Honeycomb- since Google I/O, but until recently the details have been scarce. With an APK that has been leaked, we’re getting our first look at the player which is available for download here.
With this most likely being beta version of the final app, the much-anticipated wireless syncing feature isn’t there. However the new UI is gorgeous. Judging by the video, it a lot like the Gallery app that’s been with us since Éclair, right down landscape mode which has the same stacks of music. The general consensus has been that the download and installation has been relatively easy. And it seems that the music player is coming with another app bundled with it labeled the “JumperTest”. Once installed it shows up as the same icon as the music player, which is confusing to some at first.
The “JumperTest” is actually a beta version of the missing wireless syncing feature but there’s a catch, its still not possible to wireless sync your music between your phone and computer. As for now, the “JumperTest” just gives the user a bunch of logs ,the option to select which account you wish to sync your music with, the ability to start and stop “Peer,” and to “Import Local Media”. The hope is that Google would streamline this and package it right into the music app before Honeycomb becomes available.
While operating in portrait mode, you can switch between Artist mode, Song mode, Playlist mode and Genre mode via scrolling through tabs but this may change due to Google recently ridding the market of tabs. Nonetheless, its pretty functional and other than the tabs, nothing really has changed from the older music app. As for now, the Honeycomb music app is a little too buggy to be used as your daily music playing app, but with everything the way it is now and the potential features to come, Android 3.0 can’t come soon enough for most. For those of you who plan on downloading and playing around with this, give us your feedback of what you think of it so far and what could be implemented to make it even better.
