A report from the holiday weekend is suggesting Verizon is buying iPhone-related domain names in anticipation of an impending CDMA iPhone launch. The domain names being discussed were, iPhoneonverizon.com and iPhoneforverizon.com, which were transferred to Verizon Wireless Trademark Services, LLC, a company that also holds the main Verizonwireless.com domain.
While the hopes of seeing Apple and Verizon unveiling a new iPhone model in the upcoming months is high, the purchase of a few domain names is not a reliable indicator of an upcoming launch. As MacRumors mentioned, the domain names in question were transferred to Verizon Wireless back in 2008 but have sat idle since then. Rather than a dummy page at Verizon, the domains still point to the original link farms. If Verizon had big plans for these domains, they would most likely not point them to an essentially useless link farm.
When it comes down to it, the rumor does little to confirm or deny the existence of an upcoming Verizon iPhone but we do think a Verizon iPhone is possible in the near future. We would need more evidence rather than just a few domain names to convince us that its debut is right around the corner but the accessories found recently on a third-party accessory vendor for the CDMA iPhone does point towards the impending launch we have all been waiting for.
