LG, too, recently launched the Optimus 2x (.pdf) pictured below, also equipped with a Tegra 2 processor, which the company highlighted at its Consumer Electronics press conference.
It’s interesting to see phone manufacturers bragging about processor cores in devices that are typically low-powered and running lightweight apps compared to the average computer.
This makes sense particularly for Android phones. Two cores enable a CPU to process two tasks simultaneously much faster than a single-core chip. Therefore, the Tegra 2 could take advantage of the Android OS’s beefy multitasking capabilities.
Each phone is flexing muscle in a different way, however. Motorola’s Atrix boasts compatibility with 4G, AT&T’s newest and supposedly fastest cellular network.
As for the Optimus 2x, LG is highlighting the smartphone’s ability to record and play 1080p video content.
