Just in case some of you might not know about yesterday’s Verizon iPhone announcement, the nation’s largest mobile operator is preparing what could be the nation’s largest marketing campaign to herald the Apple smartphone’s arrival on Verizon. According to speculation, the effort that Verizon is summing up for Apple’s iPhone could severely impact Android devices negatively. Up until now, Verizon has been the biggest Android carrier and if the network switches to promoting the iPhone heavily then it will definitely impact Android sales.

Analyst Shaw Wu who works with Kaufman Bros. who correctly predicted Tuesday’s major announcement, revealed in a note to investors that mega “marketing muscle” is being put behind the forthcoming Verizon iPhone, which will become available to current Verizon customers February 3rd and everyone else seven days later on February 10th. Wu Says that Verizon’s advertising effort will come largely at the expense of competing smartphones running Android. “On its homepage, [Verizon] is already highlighting the iPhone 4 and iPad as flagship products with not much else in sight,” Wu observed. Also noting that Android is about to confront its first “true test” in the mobile space now that a new iPhone rush has begun. If his predictions are correct, Android users currently on Verizon may flock to the Verizon iPhone as pure iPhone momentum sweeps across the line of sight for million of iPhone customers.
