The

Dreamcast is back!….sort of. I’ve waited years to say that phrase, (minus the “sort of”) and today I get to spread the news that our beloved console is coming back via Xbox 360. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, on February 22nd 2011 a Dreamcast Collection package is going to be released for the 360. The package will include: Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, Sega Bass Fishing and Space Channel 5: Part 2. All of the titles will have enhanced graphics as well as leader-boards online just like all of the other Xbox LIVE games, which means its finally time to bust out those old school skills that you learned on the greatest console of all time. Now I know you’re probably asking yourself “Wheres Shenmu?” and “How can you talk about Dreamcast without mentioning Jet Set Radio?” Well the most likely answer would be that this package is them dipping their toes in pool to test the waters, and if every thing works out then they could release more games or even more packages in the future. So lets pray that the water is all good and they’re getting ready to cannonball into backing this project.

Gary Knight, VP of Marketing at Sega of America and Sega Europe, noted that “The Dreamcast console is still remembered as a pioneering console for online gaming. We are delighted to be able to offer to our large community of dedicated fans a collection such as Dreamcast Collection for them to enjoy old favourites on this generation of consoles.” And to make the news even better, the package is coming to PC as well. This news isn’t as big considering if you liked the Dreamcast and its games then chances are you have ROMs of the games on your PC already (of course you only would have ROMs of games you physically own and you’re just using the ROMs to back-up your copies of the game). Do you see this as being a success idea, possibly seeing the success that the Dreamcast should have seen? What Dreamcast games would you like to see released in the future?
