iPad 2 Rumored To Have Higher Resolution Screen

iPad 2 rumors have been circulating for some time now, and seems that more often than not the consensus ends up being “maybe” when it comes to the validity of the rumor. And the talks of the iPad 2 having a higher resolution are no exception of this. Much discussion has revolved around whether or not the new tablet would be sporting a Retina Display (300 ppi). With a 9.7-inch screen, a resolution of the size wouldn’t be very practical. But that’s not to say Apple wouldn’t simply just double the horizontal and vertical resolution which is more likely, similar to how they did with the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 has a 960 x 640 screen while the iPhone 3GS comes in at half that with a count of 480 x 640.

Further fueling the rumors is the recent discovery of artwork within version 1.1 of Apple’s iBooks app that a developer has stumbled upon. The images are larger than normal and appear to be pixel-doubled. A file labeled “iPadx2? was found along side the image. It doesn’t seem that Apple wanted these images released to the public since they have been removed from the versions that followed 1.1. Using the development of the iPhone screen we can speculate that the iPad 2 will have a screen with specs somewhere in the ballpark 2048 x 1536 and about 260 ppi for its pixel density. While not quite Retina Display quality, the estimated improvements would be a nice step up from the current iPad screen. Another rumor that we reported earlier also gains some ground seeing as the 2 reports would coincide with each other. A new upgraded GPU would be pointless to implement without a screen that could unleash its potential, and likewise with the display as it wouldn’t make sense to upgrade it and not have a GPU that could make full use of it. What kind of screen specs do you think will be on the released version of the iPad 2?
