“Start the new year off strong” is a phrase we’re all familiar with and Apple seems to be taking those words to heart after the reveal of their earnings for Q1 2011. With Q4 2010 being the best revenue quarter ever for Apple ($20.34 billion) it was projected that the company would come in around $23 billion for this quarter but as it turns out, Apple only SURPASSED those projections by $3 billion dollars when they reported $26.74 billion for Q1 2011.

Breaking down the earnings for Apple, we see that iOS and in particular the iPhone to be leading the way for Apple’s record-breaking quarter. iPhone sales reached 16 million sold which made the company $10.7 billion just from the iPhone and its accessories. The iPad was also quite the hit with distribution of the device reaching 46 countries. Apple is now reporting that a total of 160 million iOS devices have been sold and that 50% of the 19.45 million iPods sold were iPod Touches. Mac sales also continued to improve as an increase of 23% over last years Q1 was seen. CEO Steve Jobs, who has gone on medical leave just recently, had this to say about the results, “We had a phenomenal holiday quarter with record Mac, iPhone and iPad sales… We are firing on all cylinders and we’ve got some exciting things in the pipeline for this year including the iPhone 4 on Verizon which customers can’t wait to get their hands on.” Fortunately for Apple, this staggering revenue report couldn’t have come at a better time as the stock more than made up for drop it saw after the news of Jobs medical leave. Apple is in the position to have another great quarter with the CDMA Verizon iPhone 4 coming next month. Do you see anything coming up in the future that could put a damper on Apples success?
