Microsoft has announced a slew of improvements to Windows Phone 7 platform during the MIX 11 developers conference in Las Vegas, the new improvements will give developers for the platform more power to get the most out of the fledgling operating system. The new developer tools will see a beta release that will give Windows Phone 7 developers access to new features such as multitasking for background processing, audio and file transfer as well as the ability to integrate their apps more deeply into the OS bringing features such as Live Tiles to 3rd party apps. As well as the new SDK, the upcoming ‘Mango’ Windows Phone 7 update is also going to give developers new tools, according to WinRumors: Live Agents create superior customer engagement with real-time interactions via Live Tiles, Push Notifications, Deep Linking and Background Agents. Multitasking is also enhanced to allow for fast applications switching, as well as background audio and file transfer. Phone integration has been greatly improved for developers wanting to do more with their apps. The Live Tiles functionality has been expanded to give developers more flexibility and engage with their customers better. Developers will have access to the Motion Sensor library and the camera, enabling augmented reality experiences. The integration extends deeper into the operating system via sockets and database access now available to apps and games. In an attempt to make the platform more lucrative, and therefore more attractive to developers, Microsoft will be bringing its application Marketplace to 35 countries which more than doubles the current number of just 16. All these updates and changes are a clear sign that Microsoft is squarely behind Windows Phone 7, something that can only be good news for new partner Nokia.
