We recently posted about Banana TV, which lets you use a Mac as an AirPlay destination for video streaming. Thanks to Erica, everyone has the ability to reverse the AirPlay pathway and play video clips (or images) from your iDevice (such as an iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch running iOS 4.2 or higher) right to your networked Mac. With the recent discovery of the AirTunes private key, it’s now possible to integrate streaming audio from an iOS device to any Mac running a new beta build of Banana Tunes (which is the app Erica is using to beta test this new streaming possibility). She’s been developing and researching the past couple weeks to get audio streaming working from iOS to OS X. The hope is it will be integrated into a future build of Banana TV. BananaTunes is currently available as a limited-time beta app so that Erica can work out bugs as time permits. It requires Mac OS X 10.6 and 64-bit, so be sure that you know what you’re running before you try out the Mac app. You can download the beta files from her FTP at ericasadun.com/ananab. There’s two links there – an install pack (refer to the readme inside for installation instructions) and the actual Banana Tunes app. Feel free to test the app folks! We are sure that Erica would love your feedback on how the app is working to help with development. We will update you as more information is made available.
