Although Google hasn’t officially released Android 2.3 Gingerbread on other phones besides the Nexus S, developers decided to get the OS working without waiting for the term officialto be attached to it.

The folks over at the XDA Developer forums have brought Android 2.3 Gingerbread to the Samsung Galaxy S in a very raw form. What that means is that it has been installed as it is from the Nexus S but onto the Galaxy S, which leaves a few of the features of your Galaxy S useless. The features it leaves out include WiFi, GPS and Voice, but that shouldn’t undermine the efforts made in bringing Gingerbread to another Android device.

We are excited at this news and anticipate that there will be a soon more refined version with each of the functions being fully operational. By the looks of the video you can watch below, Android 2.3 Gingerbread appears to be running pretty smoothly on the Galaxy S.
